Tree Trimming & Pruning Services in Chapel Hill, NC
Tree Top Flyer Tree Service provides professional tree trimming and pruning in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, Pittsboro, and Hillsborough, NC designed to improve tree health, reduce safety risks, and enhance the overall appearance of your property.
Proper trimming is essential for long-term tree stability. It helps remove dead or weak branches, improves airflow through the canopy, and reduces the risk of storm damage. Our approach is always focused on the long-term health of the tree—not just short-term appearance.
We are fully licensed and insured, and every trimming project is completed with safety, precision, and care.
Our Tree Trimming Services
We provide a full range of trimming and pruning services, including canopy shaping, deadwood removal, structural pruning, and clearance work around homes, driveways, and power lines. We also perform preventative trimming to help reduce storm-related damage before severe weather occurs.
Each tree is evaluated individually so we can determine the best approach for both safety and long-term health.
Why Choose Us for Tree Trimming?
Tree trimming requires a strong understanding of how trees grow and respond to pruning over time. With years of climbing experience and hands-on field work, we understand how to make cuts that improve structure without harming the tree’s long-term health.
We don’t believe in over-cutting or “topping” trees. Instead, we focus on intentional pruning that supports natural growth patterns and reduces unnecessary stress on the tree. Our goal is always to balance safety, aesthetics, and tree health in a way that benefits both the property and the landscape as a whole.
Types of pruning cuts we make:
- Thinning/Removal Cut: Removes a branch at its point of origin (at the trunk or parent branch). This reduces density without promoting excessive regrowth.
- Reduction Cut (Drop-crotch): Reduces the length of a branch or leader by cutting back to a lateral branch large enough to assume terminal growth (at least one-third the diameter of the removed portion).
- Heading Cut: Cuts a stem or shoot back to a stub, bud, or lateral branch too small to take over terminal growth. This is generally discouraged for mature trees (often leading to “topping”), but useful for specific shaping or hedging.
- Three-Cut Method (Large Limbs): To prevent bark ripping, make an under-cut one foot out (1), a top-cut further out to drop the branch (2), and a final finish cut just outside the branch collar (3).
We practice international society of arboriculture (ISA) industry standards.
